Event Overview

WHAT IS THE OLD ROUTE RELAY?
The Old Route Relay is a team based distance running experience. The event starts early in the morning and most participants finish between 2 PM-4PM. The total distance is ~50 miles and the course is designed to inter-mingle both the familiar and not-so-familiar roads hiding around every corner. The forgotten by-ways are driven past in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but hopefully a moment on their turf reminds us all that the road less travelled may be harder to see, but it's still there. This event serves as a charity fundraiser for Vermont based youth charities that promote active and healthy lifestyles in support of self-esteem development.
WHAT IS THE OLD ROUTE RELAY GOING TO LOOK LIKE IN 2012 *Inaugural Year*
Heart of Vermont Productions has a strong focus in 2012 on maximizing the impact to our "Rebuild" Vermont initiative after the impact of Hurricane Irene. To that end we have decided to launch this event in a quiet fashion and with minimal infrastructure. This also means minimal cost to you and a cap of 20 teams total. We piloted this event in 2011 and planned to do a full scale launch in 2012, that was until Hurricane Irene happened and impacted so devastatingly our friends along Rte 100. The Old Route Relay has such a great course and we've received so much interest that we wanted to launch it as well, so we've elected a limited roll-out this year. Your registration fee's cover expenses of the event and includes a "Rebuild" t-shirt , also including a donation to our "Rebuild" campaign. Items you've come to expect from a Heart of Vermont Productions such as portable toilets, extreme volunteerism, awards and food will not be a part of the event this year. At key locations police crossing guard assistance will secured and overall team timing will also be recorded. 2012 will look similar to our pilot run last year however some amount of signage will be used and full course handbooks will be distributed. We appreciate your support of our direction in 2012 and look forward to blowing this out in 2013.
WHAT IS A RELAY?
This long distance relay encompasses runners "handing off" to one another multiple times throughout the day. In the Old Route Relay, each team member runs and then "Hands-off" to a teammate. The team member who just finished running then waits until all team members have run before eventually they "hand-off" back to the first runner. Each runner runs (2) times throughout the day completing roughly 10 miles in total.
WHY SHOULD I DO AN EVENT LIKE THIS?
Relays are a tremendous team building experience. How often do you get to spend all day with 5 of your closest running friends? Relays are very supportive environments where you'll meet lots of people with similar interests, and these people will cheer you on the entire day. The distance is a lot more approachable than you might initially think.
WHY CHOOSE THE OLD ROUTE RELAY?
- It's approachable with a full team, more challenging with a smaller team
- A great way to shake off the winter rust without going crazy big
- You'll see a side of the area that most drive right past
- It's perfect training for the Vermont City Marathon whatever your distance
- Who knows Vermont better than Vermonter's!
